We had just moved back to the TT arena after owning a FW for 5 years. On our maiden voyage with our new TT, I lowered the WD bars using the dealer supplied "pipe" and placed it on top of my tonneau cover. Finished unhooking and pulled away. The pipe rolled off of the cover and into a poison ivy patch. (I'm very allergic!!) So a trip to the local hardware store and I bought a 12" length of EMT. Works just the same. Now I make sure the pipe is back in the pass-thru prior to pulling away.
