New 5ers are very tall (need to be more watchful of branches) and have more stairs. Hard to find a smaller one.
Prefer the truck bed for bike and other bulky item storage under my lockable cap. With a 5er, would have to add a front hitch and kayak rack to my truck (but don't like the obstructed vision).
On the other hand, the ease of hitching, towing stability and manoeuvrability of a 5er are nice.
Maybe when I can't handle the kayaks or bikes or WDH any more we'll switch, if I can find a smaller one,
