I carry 2- 2x10's just short enough to fit across the bed at the tailgate. I also have 2- 2x10's about 16" long. I use 2x10's so the tire is fully supported, and not hanging off. They also make it a little easier to make sure if the board ,over slightly when first backing on that there is a very good chance the tire will still be completely on the board(s)..
I have considered the "lego blocks", but haven't purchased any due to some of the reason mentioned, mainly cracking. Boards do crack and break over time, so in the end it is probably a wash....
I use 4 wheel chocks and a set of X-chocks. Set the wheel chocks,unhitched the truck, then once leveled I set the X-chocks.
