I'm just about ready to pull the trigger on buying our next TT. Many that we've looked at had electric jacks to level the trailer however the one we have decided on does not. That is a feature that I really like but I've been told that it's extremely expensive do install as an add-on accessory. The dealer suggests that I simply buy a cordless impact gun instead. Any recommendations on what brand I should buy? There is a huge spread on brands, models, size, and price. I don't want to invest big $$ a Snap-On tool but don't want to waste money on a cheap driver that won't do the job or hold up.

are you talking about an electric tongue jack or four corner jacks like on a class A? if tongue jack, don't let that sway your choice, they aren't that expensive or difficult to add.the talk about an impact wrench makes me think you are talking about the stabilizing jacks, NOT leveling ones. bumpy

Those cheap electric jacks are called stabilizer jacks, not leveling jacks. It does not have the power to lift and level it. I have those on mine. It's the one that operates by a single button that lowers and raises left and right stabilizer pad at the same time. I have two of them, one for the front and one for the rear. The one that has to be hand jack at 4 corners are stronger and it can can lift and level it to some degree.

It takes me a whole 5 minutes (8 minutes if I am drinking a beer at the time) to set the stabilizers up with my old fashioned crank. I do carry a batter powered drill, but it is noisy and over kill.

When the cheap motors burn out you have to hand crank it anyway. IMO, the less to go wrong, the happier the camper. I use the manual hand crank stabilizers and the ratio works so quick I often do not bother using my portable drill.

Go with the manual jacks and cordless drill, had electric jacks and had troubles noisy, blowed fuses etc. If you want a stable trailer use the electric jack money on a third set of jacks midway on your unit. Did that really pleased.

I use the Ryobi 18 volt Impact driver. This is mid priced and works great. A friend had the electric stabilizers and they didn't work very well. hope this helps good luck.

As stated I use the stabilizers with the manual handle, only takes a few minutes. I did just install a front electric jack on my TT, too much cranking for this old worn out body. I bought the jack (112.00 with the 20% off coupon from Harbor Freight, installation was easy and it works great.

I am with the manual jack folks. I spin them down with a power drill then snug them with the hand crank. I like to feel the jack tension.

Same with lifting them up. I lossen them with the hand crank then run them up with the drill.

I am old and do not like to bend a lot.

Love the Andersen levelers. The only problem I had with them was when backing onto them on a sandy site. I was using both feet, one on gas, one on brake because it didn't need much to level. Trailer brakes locked...turned the little red blocks into 'dozer blades.

Lesson learned. 6 week 11,000km trip last summer and used them on 98% of the sites (even when they looked flat and level, they usually weren't).

I've had problems with the electric stabilizing jacks. One motor seized and we were delayed 3 hours while I pulled off the motor, found a roll pin in town and reinstalled. I carry roll pins now. I think the bolts were metric allen heads. No matter how often I clean the rod, the front one stopped about half way down. Then I use the hand crank, it might be faster than the motor. A good tongue electric jack is must.
