License plate frame

My camper has tail lights with integrated license plate holders. The plate moutns vertically on tabs that come off the tail light. Unfortunately the tabs are cheap plastic and the one side broke but not completely off so I saved my tag and put it in the back window of our camper on our initial ride home. I swapped the good frame over to the left side (can't use it on the right as there is a roof ladder on the right.

Does anyone know of a similar licesne plate frame/ tail light that has a more solid metal frame? I would prefer to use the same holes in the camper body rather than make more holes and have to fill the ones being used now. My tail light has a 4 pin trailer pigtail that plugs directly into a socket on the camper (on each side). TIA
  • Our camper, (1999 Summerwind 811) is mounted on a flatbed. We have traveled in every state in the Western US including Alaska and Canada. The plate has been on the truck all this time and not on the camper. Have never been stopped or ?? about the placement of the plate. Why move it? JMHO
  • We just have stickers for our campers.

The license plate is for the truck, not the camper.

Trailers are different, they have their own plate.

UHP told me to leave the plate on the truck and as long as a Trooper could see that my camper's registration is current there shouldn't be any problems.

I know it varys from state to state.
  • I thought it was odd that my Keystone Outback TT has the license place on the passenger side.

And all my previous camper has the license plate on the driver side:

On the second photo (our Springdale), one of the plastic tabs broke and I ended up having to replace the entire light with a new one. I couldn't find a better way to fix it. I did get the light from my local RV dealership parts, an exact replacement. It held up fine for years after that, but I'm still leary to this day about those plastic tabs that hang the license plate.

One thing to remember, if you move the license plate to the other side, it has to be lighted at night. Not a big issue if you get a replacement tail light and license holder together. Still, something you cannot ignore either.
  • Don't know if Lance still makes them. They made a box or I call it a pod. They bolt to the existing holes on your camper. They come complete with taillights and license plate mount. They were expensive when I bought mine. I have a 2004 815.
