There is a significant difference between a load of lumber and a TC in that you rarely fill your truck bed with lumber and head off across the country, or leave the lumber in the bed for months/years at a stretch.
I agree , that's why you are allowed to simply put a red flag at the end of long load . If t becomes part of the truck it needs lights as all overhanging campers have .
