license plate

This is the third TC and have always put the plate on TC when on the truck. No need in inviting problems with leo's Safe travels and a Happy 4th. Gerry

I made a color laminated copy of the truck plate and put it on the back of the camper so I would have a plate on both places.

My last trip was 1 month and nearly 5000 mi and never took it off the truck.

My rear plate is completely obstructed when the camper is on. I try to remember to move it, but I have gone at least one summer without switching it.

Just like speeding, it goes great until you get caught. You will always hear stories about all those people that do it and never get caught, but you are never the lucky one. Do you feel lucky?

One of my favorite reasons for stopping people that had "my attention" was ones that lacked a front plate (when required) or obstructed plate (visible 200' to the rear). Amazing how many people have another vehicle's plate on their vehicle, stolen vehicle, expired plates, homemade plates and mismatched plates. A simple stop and verify, unless you have that one time for me;

"Hello sir. I pulled you over for that obstructed rear plate. I will need to see your Driver's License, Registration and Proof of Insurance and ask you about that Ski Mask, roll of duct tape and can of Mace on your passenger seat . . . "

Yeah, the most innocent stops provide the most interesting arrests. As long as you don't mind a few minutes with a diligent police officer, go right ahead and forget about that plate.

p.s. Oh, yeah. My SGT., during his monthly ride alongs, would count and record the number of vehicles we encountered without front plates and obstructed plates that I didn't turn and stop. Yeah, a lot of us didn't really like that SGT much either.

When I had the Outfitter the plate was more visible and I left it on the truck. With my new camper I've moved the plate to the camper.

15 years, never moved the plate from the truck, never once was questioned about it.

OMG.. you're serious, I realize, but seriously??? monthly? LMAO... Never heard or experienced that one. I did have the Chief one night..he got an earful, not sure it went anywhere inside that noggin, but WTH. I figured out of 1200+ I'd rather he hear my ideas and thoughts. He actually didn't last very long.

Monthly check ups... probably not a bad idea, just never heard that before and it kinda hit my funny bone.

Well, maybe I should have made this part more understandable. We had our supervisor ride with us, for part of a shift once a month. Some of the command officers that rode with me, were always fun. I think they just liked getting back out in the field and into the mountains, especially when one of them had me pull a guy over eating a sandwich while he was driving. Turned into a good DUI bust. Now that one particular SGT, never fun.

The state of Washington requires a plate on a camper. You know, the state just needs more money. When I bought our EC950 in July of 2010 the license fee was a little over $800. Plus you pay an 8.4% sales tax on the price of the camper. Absolute rip-off.
California likes to see those rear plates also. About a month ago we were crossing over the Golden Gate Bridge, and two weeks later I get a $7 bill in the mail with a photo of the back of the camper showing that wonderful Washington plate.
