It was not that many years ago, people would move plates from one vehicle to another. Depending on who was going to town and what they were driving into town. It wsa not that unusual for me to pull someone over and find the plate belonged to a different vehicle and simply wired onto the license plate location. Saved a lot of money for one license plates and six vehicles. Now the home made plates, that is an entirely different story. After the arrests, one had his day in court and then put a lien on the Judge's house, after he was found guilty. After the arrests, one had his day in court and then put a lien on the Judge's house, after he was found guilty. So yes, many LEOs take plate violations seriously and then, some don't. There are a lot of LEOs out there and just listening to one tell you one thing, opposite of what the statute advises, is your right to believe. But you are still required to follow the statute, if you choose to.
I don't understand about the "lien on the Judges house". Really they had the gaul to go after the judge?
Yes, and they have done worse to many LEOs, Deputy DAs in Colorado. Many in the Cortez and Durango area.
Anybody can sue or place leins or confiscate land through a process. Especially if you don't use your land and you allow others to access it. Thus the rule of the plates here, there is a benefit to displaying a plate, when required to. Some feel it is not neccessary, so be it. It will allow the officer an opportunity to stop and detain, for that reason. While it needs to be a reasonable amount of time, for it to be legal, still would not give an LEO that opportunity to waste my time if I can.
I was always amazed the guy didn't come after me. He had a home made Driver's License too. It is not that unusual to have individuals that believe it is their right and it is inclusive to not to be governed by the laws of this nation. Funny though, they wish to drive on the roads and highways supplied by the taxpayers of this country. Many don't understand the concept and when explained that they could drive cross country and contact each property owner, as they reach the next property owner, to seek permission to cross that private land. Thus the reason in having a govt provide roads and pathways for the many.
