likely the TV antenna shot? or just needs lubrication?

The crank-up television antenna's operation is so stiff that I gave up rather than keep cranking it to the point it snapped the gears...does it seem more likely that it's shot and needs to be replaced...

Thank you for being the sort of person that doesn't keep forcing it until it breaks !

I don't know how to lucubrate your model but, that is what you need to do before you wreck it and then it will cost more money to fix it.

You are on the right track to ask the members here before you break it.

What type of antennae do you have and what year was it made?
