Lindbergh's TT With Turning Axle

Just curious, I'm no engineer. I read this article this morning and it shows Lindberg's travel trailer with a front and rear axle. It states it created stability similar to a car or motorhome. Why wasn't that an idea that is used today? Am I missing something?

  • That's a wagon. Any one who ever grew up on a farm pulling wagons knows they "wiggle" when going down the road and are very difficult to back-up. I'll take a trailer over a wagon any day.
  • Technically it is not a trailer. it is a wagon. I would suspect that the cost of the turning mechanism, the stability of the unit at modern highway speeds and in sharp turns, plus the length of modern RVs would not be compatible with the design.

I would bet it would be interesting to park also. It is cute though.
