I just picked up an '01 2500 4x4 burb with 8.1 and 4.10's. 159k miles, $5k. Having just come from a '94 1500, I can tell you that the GMT800 (2000 - 2006) rides substantially better than the GMT400 (92-99). This 2500 with LT tires at 58psi rides softer than my old 1500 with P tires at 32psi. That's saying something. Plus it has heated leather and a moonroof. Haven't hauled the TT yet, but I know it won't be any issue. And gas mileage is almost exactly the same. Most likely better than a 7.4 in the old chassis.
The only thing I like better about the old one, is the spacious feeling in the front seats. The new one is much more confined - 'A' pillar sweeps back and in more, that makes the visors closer to your head; dash is closer; console is higher - feels more like a full size lux car than a truck. I liked all the space around me in the old one.
