You've got that one right!
At highway speeds, wind resistance is the most important factor in fuel use. There are some mileage cost savings involved with towing a lighter trailer, such as less fuel used in mountainous country.
But more important, at least for some:
Buying a lighter trailer in some cases ALSO allows one to buy a smaller tow vehicle. This is a major consideration for folks that must/do use their tow vehicle for a daily driver as well.
In those cases the difference in fuel costs over time can be very significant, and are often accompanied by lower maintenance/insurance costs to boot.
