load bar question

My truck and camper used to be level with 3 chain lengths hanging on the load bars. Then it started to sag in the rear. I then moved it one chain length so that 4 lengths were hanging and that took care of it for a while. Now it is sagging again. Is it safe to keep taking up more and more chain lengths to get it to level again? I don't want to go too far and cause something to break. Thanks.
  • Take a good look at the receiver and make sure it isn't bending or broken.
  • If you have round bars, check and make sure your hitch head is not worn oval where the bars snap into. Happened to mine and I had to go a link tighter until I replaced it.
  • Check the washer gap with the trailer disconnected or at least with the weight distribution bars off. The gap will be gone once you tension up the bars.

If the bars are snapped up and the washers are tight you can check it also. Get down on your knees and look under the bottom of the hitch head under the washers. There should be a single bolt there that holds the head tilted against the washers. Make sure this bolt is tight.

Have you been adding things into the front storage of the trailer? Little things can add up pretty fast to change the tongue weight.
  • Check the gap betwwen the washers at the head.. I advise you to get professional help to set up your rig..

Whats the model wd hitch you have?

  • You need a min of 5 chain lengths between the bars and the hook/tensioner..

What ever you are doing is wrong and probably dangerous..

I would say the bolt came loose at the receiver end and the angle of it dropped all the way back...
