I am still trying to get over the fact that my 8' bed SOMEHOW became a LONG bed :h Something that can carry a 4x8 sheet of plywood, use to be a standard bed. Under 8' was short, the rare 10' was long.
Guess I am showing my age :S
I like my "long" 8' bed. I have a 20" crossbox that standard lumber can slide under....Grizzly 700 fits (with a minor lift on the front)...all with the tailgate UP.
I have a regular cab, so my legnth is only equal to a crewcab with..ahemmm..."regular bed", so it fits in the garage if I removed all the junk in the garage.
I have backed a tractor (as in semi minus the trailer) into many parking spots. It fits if I can tangle the @$$ over the curb, similar to the way many pickups do. I can't imagine why a pickup would have trouble. All depends on the width of the travel lanes between such parking spots, not the width/length of the parking spot. Narrow lanes....I park away from the congestion.
