Interesting article. I have previously read about the joint GM/Ford venture into 10 speed transmissions for RWD and 9 speed transmissions for FWD vehicles.
But, until your link (thank you) I haven't seen anything lately.
Good to see that the Big Two are working together on these expensive projects.
We do have a global economy and joint company involvement of research, design and scale of production with different products, does help with the eventual consumer price. Think there will be more of this in the future....maybe other parts of the power train such as engines and components parts like turbos, etc.
It has been done before. The world engine...the 2.4 liter 4 cylinder designed and used by Hyundai/Kia, Mitsubishi and Chrysler/Jeep seems to have been a success.
