i have the LMM crew cab short bed LTZ, pay load is not an issue for me i have been fine with that, i tow a 31' TH not a problem, only thing i dont like about it is the small tank, 26 gallons. check your smog regulations where you live you might be able to ditch the DPF and have it retuned, for under $1500 you can make amazing improvements to the truck. those trucks are 50 state legal and here in CA we have to have it smogged every 2 years. but your state does not have that restriction then you are good to go. i get around 11 towing and average between city and highway, but most of my driving is city i average around 14-15. i bought mine used and so far has been a great truck, im also a chevy guy so im a little biased. i really wanted the LML but was out of my price range.
