Your looking at the wrong towing numbers. The factory receiver on our X states 500# tongue/5000# tow weight for bumper hitch. Using a WD hitch, the hitch rating is 1250# tongue/12500# tow weight. A 2002 should have the same hitch receiver, since the hitch was upgraded (I believe) in 2001. *** That is, if that X has a receiver on it! *** Never have seen one without it, but possible!!!!
You should be fine with that X and trailer, well within towing specs. The 10K towing is correct, with a WD hitch. As to the X gvwr, I believe that will also be adequate for you and your family load!! Ours handles a 8K+ 34ft trailer very well.
