Molinu, my wife and I are in similar situation.
You've heard from some knowledgable folks here. With the specificity of the vehicle I would consider reaching out to a few owners that tow with them, like the few you heard from here. That's great info of course. Lots of other theoretical BS will interject itself if your not careful. Well intentioned of course, but it can be a minefield for new folks like us.
Search this sub forum and used advanced search, rather than normal search function. Enter Excursion in title line and select to search by title, meaning on when Excursion was listed in title of an old thread. This will allow you to easily identify folks owning the Excursion as the talk about it during the many old threads.
Read all the good and bad, then make up a detailed PM requesting info and copy and paste it to several folks that tow with an Excursion. Should take 20-30 minutes and you will have lots of great info coming in as folks here are generally very helpful. It won't take many, say 5-10 replies, or 10-15, and you will have a very firm opinion on how the Excursion performs.
Be sure to ask what WD hitch folks are using and what size/weight camper they are towing. Ask about any mechanical issues, suggestions for upgrades, good towing tires they might suggest, shock and suspension upgrades, trailer brake controllers or brakes themselves, etc. Be sure to ask if they have any suggestions, tips, or other general advice they may offer.
There is a great collective wisdom on this forum. I suggest a scalpel rather than an axe for tapping into it. We all post new threads and hope for good insights, sometimes that is what we see, sometimes every blowhard and crayon eater feels obligated to chime in. Sending a focussed PM to several folks that tow with the same vehicle will get you the best information to make a good decision for your families needs.
Good luck with your search and your travels.
