Looking for ideas

My wife has very little strength in her hands and she has difficulty opening the door from outside.

I'm thinking if drilling a hole and clipping a lanyard onto the handle. Any ideas other than that?

  • I went thru this with my injured nephew.
Maybe a locksmith would be able to fabricate an electronic device where you don't need a key or need to grab and pull a knob.
    Something with a lever .

There is an add on lever here, maybe this will offer you an idea.

They have an IR , it will see you approaching at 15 ft. and open the door for you :W . Just like at Walmart.

We have some experience with accessibility in the houses we restore. The first question regards the hands. Is it a lack of grasping strength? In which case we install latches that can be pushed to release the door. However, a lack of grasping strength raises the issue of accessibility on the stairs leading to the coach, I would think. Even a handrail might not be sufficient.

This is a TC so there is not a lot of room for large mods. It is grip strength that she lacks.

How about bolting a larger handle onto the original one? Look for "open ended pull handle" on mcmaster.com
