After the last two POS Ford's I owned, I am enjoying my Gold Standard DuraMax...

I'm not brand loyal, and I have looked at Ford and GM on autotrader and the GM is for sure more money.

I did find an 06 LBZ crew long bed with 115K miles for 24999 bone stock, and its red, and I like red....

That supports my position...I bought my loaded late 2006 Dually DuraMax with 59000 miles on it about a year ago for $24500. Today, I see very similar trucks with more miles for a lot more money. I am sure I could make $2000 on mine if I wanted to sell it.

I did look for 2 months before I was able to close a deal. In the interim, I lost two other deals because I thought too long before pulling the trigger...the morale of that story is simple...if you are looking at the Gold Standard LBZ DuraMax...if you snooze...you lose...

I have an 06 LBZ and one thing has gone wrong with the engine. #8 glow plug went out around 65K. I think it was $28 bucks or so but it was under warrantee so I let them do it. That's it.

The other things I have done to the truck:

Steering clunk. (Look it up)

Steering column bearing at around 50K. What the ??? Truck has never seen a dirt road! :M

PS hose leak.

Engine oil cooler hose leak.

Oh, and it needs new shocks. (hell, it needed those at 20K!!!):M

That's it.


As far the 6.0 goes, I'm not a fan of them. BUT, if gotten cheap enough you can Band-Aid them up and they make a pretty nice engine. The rest of the truck is light years ahead of the 7.3 PS.

It just depends on what you want and how much money you have. Good luck hunting.

In 2011 I had the chance to test drive brand new Ford, Chevy and Dodge SRW longbed F250/2500 pickups equally equipped as possible. It was at a GM sponsored event with two test track setups. One track had a lot of bumps and dips the other was smooth but with tight turns.

Of the 3 I liked the ride, comfort (leg,head & hip room) and interior of the chevy but the power of the ford. I ranked them chevy, ford and then dodge.

I currently have a 2007 C4500 chevy with the Duramax and Allison 6 speed. This engine and transmission combination is great for towing my 15,000lb 5th wheel. My engine is actually tuned with 30 less HP then the Duramax in the 2500 and 3500. So the 2500 or 3500 should be even better for towing. I was shopping for a Chevy 3500 dually crewcab when I came across this C4500 and couldn't pass up the deal otherwise I would have details about the 3500.

If you like red, buy the red one...even better, if it's an LBZ in decent shape JUMP ON IT.

oh and as far as an improvement, I don't have a 4 door now and lets face it a 7.3 isn't the most powerful thing out there. It runs great and all even with some mods, just the 4 door would be nice since its we're a family of 3 with 2 big dogs.

I don't want to get into this emissions******thats why i'm saying no newer then 06. Millage doesnt really scare me, its a diesel. I don't like the megga cabs because you loose alot of bed space, I do want an 8 foot bed.

If not happy with cab size you need to look at the Dodge Mega cab it is the biggest in the industry.
