Hmmm, another one who posts a query then never comes back to follow up. I'm thinking maybe Elvis didn't like the "reassurance" he was being offered and has left the building.
Maybe because the "reassurances" were opinions from people with no actual experience with said setup. The usual you can't tow anything with less than a 1 ton dually mindset.
Wrong trailer purchased for average family payload requirements.
Wrong tow vehicle for purchased trailer.
Expensive lesson x 2.
^^ This for example. What a load of c**p. What is this based on? Nowhere does the OP say anything about a family or passenger weights. Could just be a couple with a chihuahua. 800lbs of CC is plenty for many people. Not everyone travels with full tanks and a cord of wood.
This forum is an opportunity to learn for some. Some advice with
factual information would go a long way. The OP is simply trying to determine if he is safe and may be unfamiliar with ratings. Keep the TV within payload and watch that you don't overload the TT and there is no reason that the OP couldn't safely tow his TT with his Tacoma.
To the OP: more info is required for people to provide opinions based on fact.
-Tacoma payload (off door sticker) and receiver rating (stamped on hitch or usually 10% of tow rating)
-# of passengers and weights
-weight of anything you plan on carrying in the truck bed
Using the TT max GVWR, assuming you load it, would give you a tongue weight of ~582lbs. With your listed payload of 1215lbs you would have 633lbs remaining for passengers and stuff. Can you stay under that?
I would also suggest downsizing your hitch. A 10K rated hitch is overkill for that TT and will make for a stiff, harsh ride. A 750/7500 rated one would suit better.
