Hmmmmm......I'm a new comer and came over from truck camper forum which is less active. However, I've run a darts forum for a long time now (17 years or so) and recently upgraded it to be more modern. Forums are still far far better than bookface ;)
However, people flocked to that platform and began creating 'groups' and stuck with it because of the different 'groups' and 'friends' they had. Forums like this one suffered because of it.
FB did make it very easy to post pics and was one of the reason I updated my own site but after thousands of dollars in upgrading the site, getting a new host server etc etc I've not seen the benefit I'd hoped and may let my site, which was once in the top 100,000 sites worldwide, die off.
I hope it doesn't happen hear but unless people cotninue to come and post and read etc, then advertisers won't pay to be on the site and if they aren't on the site the host has to pay the server cost, and in my case I just don't feel like doing it anymore ;)
So I guess this is sort of a dual answer: FB hurts the sites like this. Old time posters may have moved on because there isn't enough new content to keep them here.
Oh and on the dart site the old timers got to a point they felt they beaten the horse to death so to speak.
Just the ramblings of a sysadmin ;) Now, is it time to go camping again?
