But didn't Navistar have very few problems with its own version of the 6.0L diesel, as it was not juiced to the horsepower of the one delivered to Ford?????
Navistar VT365I'm happy with my 6.0, I have a diesel mechanic certified for auto to Class 8 diesel but he likes to work on the pickup diesels most. We keep up on the scheduled maintenance and it runs and pulls fine. Grossing 20,000# she runs through PA with the cruise set at 60 mph enjoying the view. I get 11 mpg towing and 16.5 to 17 mpg "bobtailed" and compared to my big truck at 6.5 mpg, it's a deal.
Due to dealer fear, I got a great deal and I did my homework. Since I saved thousands, I can afford a couple of "upgrades" if I should need them. 126,000 miles and running strong. I have all the maintenance records, 1 EGR valve since new.
The diesel was such a simple, reliable, engine until the EPA. Use to go for months without an issue. Heck the ole mechanicals would run till they ran out of fuel or seized from lack of oil. Now the trucks are in the shop all the time and it's all related to EPA systems and the computer. Heck on the Class 8's there's a yellow engine light and a yellow check engine light before you even get to the red engine warning light. Between "cab codes (computer)" and engines lights for the regen systems it seems I always have a "warning light" lite.
