Will I own a 6.0? Maybe one day if my needs require a diesel. Right now I could buy a really nice 06 F350 SuperDuty Crew Cab Long Bed dually 4x4 in King Ranch with about 100k miles for $22,000.00 asking price. I would do the following to this truck immediately.
*BPD EGR Cooler
*BPD Oil Cooler Kit... (replaces the engine oil cooler with an air to oil cooler and sends coolant straight to the EGR cooler)
*Coolant filter
And thats at a minimum.
Thanks!

Or you could by another brand truck of the same era and avoid the expense and hassle of bullet proofing the truck....I did
This is true... but the Duramax trucks that I can afford had a flaw.. while it wasn't blowing Head Gaskets the injectors are still a 3-5k ordeal. I can't consider the early Rams, even the 4 doors because they are not true crew cabs. Comparing the Superduty crew cab to the GM crew cab shows a slight difference. The Ford has more room in it in the back seat. I have adult size children and need the most room possible for them in the back. Until about 2006 ish (whenever the Mega Cab came out). I'm not brand bashing... just pointing out that motors only play a point in vehicle selection. Hmmm.. wonder what Megacabs are selling for now...
Thanks, and great conversation!

You could look at Ram 2nd gen 99 to 02, or a 3rd gen 03 to 07. Dodge severely under rated their trucks during that time. The Cummins 5.9 isn't flawless, but the upgrades are simple and inexpensive.
I was 99% Ford for 44 years, when I wanted the pulling power of diesel, I chose Cummins, I was a bit worried about the Ram wrapper, but it is as solid as all the Fords I owned. It is an 01 loaded SLT Laramie, and it all still works.
