Once again you 6.0 bashers prove my point. You read the OP's post and heard what you wanted then jump right in with your normal bashing. You say the OP replaced the ficm and the EGR cooler. No, he replaced the FICM and the EGR valve. Big difference and both minor repairs. When it comes to a 6.0 thread it is true some of you folks jump in with out facts.
The problems that plagued the 6.0L PSD is so common knowledge that a monk in Tibet could join right in this thread without missing a beat.
We can recap the common diesel discussions right here:
7.3L PSD - never seen a bashing thread
6.0L PSD - owner's manual has section for responding to critics
5.9L Cummins - only for those who can't handle 8 cylinders, good engine, cheap trucks
6.6L Duramx - you'll be subject to getting ripped off when repaired at the dealership (ref other thread)
Everyone happy now?
Bold is mine....back in the early days of the interwebs...say 94-95 ish when that new-fangled Powerjoke came out with all its issues and $200.00 injectors ... There were scores and scores of people online posting Powerjoke threads and get your IDI turbo while you still can... The 7.3 powerstroke was going to be the end of the Diesel as they knew it.
Time sure does put a different perspective on things...lol...now those early 6.0's are about the same age those coveted (or hated?) early 7.3's were when the 6.0 came out...
Your right...20 years later the 7.3 PSD is remembered as durable diesel...even though it had its own set of problems and 'haters' back in the day.
I suspect in 10 years there will be a much different lense people look at the 6.0 through. rose colored or not...time generally changes perception. There are those people who are just starting to drive now (teens) or younger whose first diesel will be a 6.0 because that's what they can afford. They will wrench it and fix it in their drive way.
Just like the legendary Hemi that commands tens of thousands of $$$. I talked to many people from back in the day and they called it a POS and would rather have a 440..lol. My how time manages to change perceptions.
12 years later and there are still hundreds of thousands of 6.0's on the road everyday doing their thing. 12 years later!!!
Thanks!
