In a general sense, that is the way free market products work. If a product is still financially viable, it will be fixed. Conversely if it no longer makes sense to keep repairing and spending money on it, then it simply goes away and is replaced by something else with the hope the replacement will be more more reliable and/or cheaper to run.
For what it's worth, here is another data point/general observation from my part of the country ( midwest ): at horse shows I look around the parking lot at trucks and trailers all the time. I would estimate that about half to 60% of the trucks pulling horse haulers are F series Fords, with the remaining percent being more or less equally divided between GM and Ram. More diesels than gas powered.
Not sure what that really tells us ? !
Another general observation around here is there are still a LOT of 6.0 PS F-series in daily use by working pros ( lawn and landscape, tree trimmers, etc ). We can assume they have spent some money on them to keep them going, but obviously since they are still using them, they think it's money well spent on a business asset.
I am not brand loyal. Have owned many different makes ( except Chrysler/Dodge ). My observations over the years is that often one brand may be stronger in one area and weaker in another area compared to the competition.
Overall we have been happy with our 6.0. It does the job of pulling the horse trailers and my equipment trailer, and it makes overall sense for us to keep it, run it and repair it when needed. There is more to the overall cost of operation than just whether or not a repair has to be made. New vehicles as a replacement carry with them sales tax ( one time ), higher annual personal property taxes, higher insurance, etc. To be fair to the whole discussion, one needs to factor all of it in, with a pass by the accountant in the decision process.
The trouble with these discussions on a forum is that people get their panties all in a wad when "their brand" gets slammed. In my world it all has little to do with emotions, and more to do with actual numbers.
