Lowering shackles

I have a 2013 GMC Sierra 2500HD Duramax Crew Cab. I absolutely love this truck, however I think the rear end sits up too high. The rake on it doesn't look right and it's rather stiff when driving empty. The popular correction is to raise the front end to level the truck, but I'd rather level it by lowering the rear. My concern is when I tow my TT, the truck sits about level. If I lower it 2" inches, I'm afraid it will squat down too much. I don't want to solve one problem only to create a new problem.
Has anyone done this?
  • Lowering the rear won't make the truck ride any better. It's a 2500 HD
  • They have a rake so that they do level out when loaded vs nose to the sky.
Reverse leveling is totally an option. HDs usually have a block under the springs that can be taken out to lower the back end. Easiest way, but yeah it won't improve the ride.
I like the look of a leveled pickup but it should be reserved for commuter vehicles and bro dozers. Too many nose to the sky trucks hauling their campers out of town on a Friday!
  • I'm not really concerned that much about ride...I just don't think it looks right with the rear end sticking up so high. I am however concerned about it squatting down too much when trailer is hooked up.
  • How about lowering shackles and airbags for the best of both worlds?? Add air when towing and let it out for cruising.

    I like that idea.
  • I have a 2008 Chevy 2500HD I bought new. I didn't like the looks of the back end so I installed 2" lowering shackles back then. If I ever buy a new truck, I would lower the back end again. It made it easier to get in back, trailer tows level. When I hook my 10000# fifth wheel to the truck, it hardly drops. I thought about air bags but not needed. In 8 years I have towed 5th wheel over 40,000 miles and no issues. You will have to re-aim head lights. Before I changed shackles, I marked garage door with masking tape where headlights hit. After changing shackles I adjusted headlights to original setting.
