If you're going to start racing that Ford up the hills :B you need to know that the Ford transmission is programmed to choose low rpm/fuel economy over high rpm/power. With your foot to the floor it would sooner run up the hill at a constant 2000 rpm in 4th than drop to third and start accelerating from 2640 rpm. (anything under 2000 rpm and it will downshift when you floor it) At 2000 rpm the engine is only making 300 HP as compared to 365 HP @ 2650 rpm.
On the down hill side the transmission isn't overly aggressive either. If you find yourself going down a very long steep grade with a heavy trailer you might want to slow down to 45 mph at which point you can manually force the shift to 2nd. In 2nd the engine will hold back quite well. 3rd gear doesn't allow for much engine braking.
