But one must weigh the availability, cost is considerable. Consideration must be given to the span to be accomplished, as well as the "Sail Load." Often times the weight and size of a product is not that much different than steel, as is available connecting pieces are as close as your local Home Depot & Home Depot.
It is always good to have options and Aluminium is a nice option, but $$$ is more a consideration than weight on my truck.

And having used this at work I can say that if attcahed to a roof rack the rack would get torn off before you bent the strut.
