Newer diesel trucks are subject to higher repair bills as mentioned by others due to complexity of the emission system. When any of the big 3 run w/o problems, we love them to death. When they have problems, biggest pieces of junk. Makes no diff as to make. At work, we've had brand new trucks w/ 13 liter diesels throw eng/ck eng lights. 99.9% of the time, it's DEF related. Local dealer said to me 1 time that 75% of the trucks in yard are DEF related problems. So while our pick ups for the most part are trouble free towing beasts, once out of warranty, repairs can be very costly indeed. Not sure if any ext warranty covers DEF/inj pump problems or not. We wouldn't have this prob if the tree huggers left well enough alone in the 1st place. And, it's sad to say that we pay coo-coo bucks for pick-ups w/ diesels and even more coo-coo bucks to up keep them. Don't know many that can afford to buy new trucks before warranty expires just to have a new warranty and not have to worry about $$$ repairs.
