Maybe an oblique view of 'MINE' might help some understand my
side of the coin.... :)
Ditto...glad to find middle ground !
Gone are those who 'enjoy' driving and 'like' to hear their engine's
melody
I some times, many times, leave it in a lower gear just to hear and
enjoy the ride...don't have to watch the ATF temp gauge either, as
running high rev's in a lower gear will NOT heat up ATF...
Sure automatics of 'today' can shift faster, but why out on the street?
My 64' MGB's manual box did not have a syncro 1st, but still loved it
My 240Z's manual box is circa 1969 and could beat the syncro's easily
but still loved it. Have a 5 speed close ratio 'built' and ready for
the day have time and budget to get to it.
My 70' Toyota FJ40 in compound low and manual 1st could get out and
move that log/rock/etc while it was still in gear with the engine
running *AND* still could walk back to it to jump in and shift. COULD
NOT do that with the K5's automatic (because was planning to marry
and she could not or would not drive a manual)
Just check the current threads (both towing and TV) and you will easily
find one where someone is asking 'what is tow/haul?', or 'when should
I use tow/haul', or what temp is too high for ATF (and the ensuing
argument that today's ATF is 'good' for +240*F), Or should the ATF
be flush (and the ensuing just the TC or the whole charge...and then
the questions of what that meant)...that is the herd am talking about
that drives the OEM's
Anyway the automatic is here to stay and driven by the masses who
do NOT know HOWZ2 manage a manual (again, a few do and are techie
enough to make their decision, but am not talking about them...they
are just lumped in with that portion of the herd)
No resolution as I'm still a manual person resigned to being forced
by the majority. You folks make up your own minds and hope another
portion of the majority herd doesn't then force you into something
you do NOT want, but have to because that is all the OEMs offer...
me thinks those on the other side of this coin would be the first to
yell bloody murder if manuals were dictated to them by the OEM offerings...
