Just saw the oddest thing a few minutes ago. Had to go to UPS to pick up a package. There was a half camoed superduty in the other lane. Here is the weird part. When taking off it acted very much like it had a manual transmission. That sudden lift of the front end, settling down than a shift. Maybe the guy was screwing around but it was different. Oh, and it had a side exhaust exiting forward the right wheel. Maybe a Roush vehicle or some other testing being done?Pure speculation but at least it made the run to UPS interesting.

The Ford auto transmission can be shifted manually. I've tried it but really see no reason for it. If you were looking at an older super duty it may have come from the factory with a standard.

OK, half camoed as in "anti spy photo" camouflage rather than hunter chic camouflage.I knew a guy who bracket-raced late 60's cars. He put in a transmission that would only shift smoothly under hard throttle. The rest of the time it was an ugly affair. Maybe if this was a sporting prototype it was having similar issues?

Could Ford (or whoever) be experimenting with a new manual transmission?Maybe they're getting requests from the buying public.

Yes, I should have been more clear on that. Not hunter camo but disguised camo to conceal the lines of the vehicle.

Not a chance. Many people today don't even know how to operate a manual, and it is difficult because everyone has to be texting and drinking Starbucks while driving.

Maybe they are testing dual clutch transmissions that have a manual mode?

Interesting conversations. Hopefully I described it correctly. It had the left front lifting like when you let out the clutch fast and it takes off right now. Not like when the converter slips for a nice smooth take off. The thing that got me was the exhaust location in the non traditional spot. Someone else in my area must have seen it also. Maybe my eyes were playing tricks on me.

I, for one, will NEVER buy another automagic transmission again. Manual all the way!
