I looked briefly at the RAM's manual tranny, but decided on the 68RFE instead.
The main feature I liked with a the manual was that the exhaust brake could basically operate down to 0 rpm. It cuts out at about 1100 rpm in the 68RFE and is unavailable in first gear. But that has turned out not to be a major issue with the 68RFE in practice.
The main disadvantage I could foresee with the manual was backing up and manoeuvring my trailer into tight spots. I'll often twist around and lean over to get a different view out the mirrors and imagined my foot slipping off the clutch. We have a very tight spot in our condo where backing in the Cruze with its manual tranny is painful. And the Cruze has the scratches to prove it.
