Manufacturer Says this is OK

I drew the 'wavy' red line where the manufacturer says the COG is located. They also say this TC is designed for LWB or SWB 3/4 Ton and higher trucks.

Would you do this?

Yes, it does have a full wall slide-out and one of those nice fancy step/storage bumpers.

  • FWIW that's what every 8-1/2 to 9' camper looks like on a short bed truck.
Not really an issue. Thousands of them running around. Theoretical CG does look a bit further back than my 860 though.
Never understood the paranoia on the forum of having a CG behind the CL of the rear axle.
That Cummins in my truck puts a beatin on the front end as it is. My steering components and springs probably enjoy having a few hundred less pounds to carry around! (My rear axle is a little pissed off though, lol. )
  • I don't think it looks that much different than a 11 1/2 camper. Assuming it is a Lance 1050s as the picture description says, I probably wouldn't do it. It's easy enough to buy a 8 ft bed truck.

That being said, just because I wouldn't do it doesn't mean it isn't safe. I'm also not a fan of any campers on a short bed crew cab srw. That's about as bad as it gets unless it was an older GM short bed crew cab made before 2007.
  • Same manufacturer says that my camper is made for a 1/2 ton truck even though with a modest load and 25 gallons of water, it overloads a 1 ton SRW.

The same manufacturers make slideout campers, which are on average 6-800 lbs heavier, and claim they are fine on a single wheel truck.

Such claims are laughable to anyone who has ever had his or her truck on a scale.

That tire looks to have a 31.5" diameter.

    ??? To both of you.
That's a short bed super duty. 6-6", 6'-8" whatever they are.
And yes that's about an avg truck tire 31-33"".
  • That just looks...wow...not good to me. I wouldn't do it regardless of what anyone assured me. But that's just me.
  • The angle on the rear tie down looks like the camper can tilt forward on a big bump.

But, with that said, you do realize the the 'COG' mark is only a reference, and for that, a reference to an empty unit. Put a pillow in there and it changes.

Their ad does say that the fresh water tank sits up front and when you fill it with water .................
  • You're going to get more answers that are 'absolute' than you'll know what to do with.
