The first thing you should do is figure out exactly where you will be parking a trailer and secure the land (purchase, rent, beg, borrow, steal, or whatever). Then you will know what you are up against. Will the site have electricity, water, and sewage if you purchase something? If not, how are you going to get water, use the bathroom, shower, and charge batteries in your camper.
How long, how wide is the site. This will drive how large or small you need to go with your camper. Remember, you need to park more than just your camper on it. So, looks for the site first, then focus on the camper.
You can pick up a trailer virtually anywhere for just about any price. You can purchase new or used, both will have issues you'll need to work through.
Trailers get extremely hot in the summer, and if the air conditioner does not cool adequate, especially in a Southern state in the summer, your camper could be an oven. What are you planning on doing with your dog when you are "out to sea?" Take him with you I hope. So you have another living creature you need to consider. And if you are in some kind of an RV park or campground, most places frown heavily about leaving pets unattended.
If you purchase, will you eventually need a lawn mower, a weed eater? And how will the property be taken care of when you are up North?
So, in all fairness, your tow vehicle is a trivial matter. Your bigger issues is starting with WHERE you are planning to park the camper and ensuring you have the infrastructure (water, sewer, electric) to support the spot. THIS is where you REALLY need to start. The choice of camper is trivial also. Once you know where you are permanently going to be parked, then you can focus on the camper and the method to tow it.
