Max being towed with an F150 Ecoboost

Im looking for a new tow vehicle. Been watching the Ecoboost and all the pros and cons. Please chime in with opinions, experiences and facts. Has the intercooler/condensation issue been resolved? What is the max that's being towed on a regular basis? i.e. once every 60 days or so. Thanks in advance..
  • We have 2000 miles on our 2013 pulling the f'ver in picture No problem stretch cab 4x4 6.5 bed. We do have the max tow haul package. Not sure about weight haven't weighted it with this truck we were using a 2004 f150 before and am much happier know.
  • No problem here either. Towing a 26 foot Cougar 26BHS. We camp a few times every month. We have towed 3000 km on the trailer all in the west coast. The truck is 2012 Ford F-150 ecoboost, 6.5 ft box with max trailer tow package.

The trailer weighs 7300 lbs (verified at the scales) with water and ready to go for camping. I usually have firewood in the truck as well.

There is always lots of power. I find the speed sweet spot to be at 105 km/h.

  • Ive had mine for over two years now and 23,000 miles. Absolutely no issues since day one. I have the max tow with the 6.5' bed and 157" wheel base. My trailer is 33' 7500-8000lbs loaded depending on the length of the trip we are taking. The truck tows the trailer great climbing most hills at 2100rpms in 5th gear. You would not be disappointed!

  • Well, my '12 EB SCAB had the water in the intercooler issue this past weekend. Towing in the rain, I got to a hill & hit the throttle. It stumbled, spit, sputtered, the CEL was flashing, lost ALL power, and it finally cleared.

But it handles out 4700# trailer easily.
  • One of my friends had the condensation problem on his truck. It only stutered when commuting, never when towing. It usually did it on the last hill coming home to his house (~25% grade, maybe steeper). New intercooler solved the problem.

His is the supercrew/6.5' bed. Rides and drive nice, but it can't turn as sharp as my van. And not very hard to eat up all the payload with that size bed and 6 people in the cab. I would strongly recommend the max payload package if you plan on a really large trailer.
  • I have a 2011 ecoboost and absolutely no issues what so ever other than my chrome running boards peeling grrrr but that's what warrenty is for. No condensations issues love the truck have over 6k miles on it towing now plenty of power just watch your payload numbers!
  • Thanks. One more thing to ask, What wheel base does everyone have? Pros and cons on what the length plays while towing.
  • Bought a new 2012 F150 E/Boost 4wd in March. Towed several times. Live on the Oregon Coast (wet). No problems. Trailer dry weight 5600#. LOTS of power. No condensation problems. In my research it seems that after sometime in 2011, I believe, that issue was rectified.

In all fairness I will say that first, I'm a Ford fan, and that I haven't had this pickup for a long time. But so far I don't have anything to complain about.
