  • For many years the 3/4 ton trucks have been rated with a 6000-6200 RAWR. Weigh the trucks front and rear axle separately.

If your towing a bumper pull or GN/5th wheel trailer or carrying a truck camper then the rear axle will carry most if not all that weight so pay attention to the RAWR minus unladin rear axle weight which generally runs from 2800 up to 3400 lbs all depending on actual scaled weights.
  • Is it YOUR truck? If so, take the truck, with the hitch in the bed fully fueled to a scale. The really important weight is the real axle weight. The difference between scaled rear axle weight, and the sticker in the drivers door / door jam is the max possible weight. Real world there will be more then just you in the truck, and possible something (like firewood, coolers, bikes, etc) in the bed. So shoot for several hundred lbs below the max possible. Back seat passengers and cargo put roughly 1/2 their weight on each axle.
I prefer to keep within all ratings, but legal is axle & tire weights.
  • Weigh your rear axle at the scales and subtract that from your RAWR listed on your door pillar. This will give the maximum weight you can load in the rear of the truck which includes occupants, gear, hitch and pin weight.
  • Depends on brand, model, gvrw, weight in truck. The average payload for most crew cab 3/4 tons is between 2800 and 3200 including passengers, hitch, gear, firewood, etc. I would recommend keeping pin weight on tongue weight under 2000 lbs.
