Towing performance is very subjective. Towing any high walled trailer takes a lot of power to pull two sheets of plywood through the air at 60-65mph. With any naturally aspirated V6, you'll be cruising near 3000rpm with downshifts for hills. If that is acceptable, then I would say the current 4-Runner should be fine. The JCG with 8-spd should be a little better with smaller gear ratio spreads. But if you want the power, it will be singing at times over 5000rpm. If that is the part that troubles your current truck, then I recommend something with more torque in the engine speed you want, say a V8 or turbocharged V6.
