440HP vs. 385HP = 55 HP which a significant difference.
Regardless, I still love my Cummins. I have the 350/650 and it pulls our 5th wheel quite well. So well sometimes that it's easy to speed unless you're watching or set cruise. Something my old half-ton hemi towing much less weight couldn't do unless you dropped it into 2nd gear.
It depends which F450 you are talking about. The pickup version has the hotter tune of the smaller trucks while the chassis cab model is detuned like the larger trucks using the same engine.
Ram also detunes their chassis cabs, so it is not unique to Ford nor is it exclusive to diesels. Both companies detune the gasoline engine in their chassis cabs verses their pickups.
