WHen DEF came onto the scene in 2011 I can remember so many people bad mouthing GM for putting the filler under the hood, and praising Ford for putting it next to the fuel filler.
This isn't the first time I have heard of a Ford owner doing this unfortunately.
For something the average owner only refills 2-3 times a year the underhood refill really makes more sense.
