when I got the truck to the dealer last night, the diesel guy was waiting on me. He already had all the parts on order and will have it torn down for insurance inspection this morning.
While talking to him, I specifically asked him what would happen if I were to have followed my original course of action such as replacing the filters, draining and rinsing the tank, etc. His response was that "once the crystals start forming, you can not get them out by using cetane booster or any other known chemicals". They will continue to grow and typically, they will form on the injectors. If they cause an injector to lock open, the engine will likely hydrolock and result in catastrophic engine damage."
