I have been seeing more and more of these mistakes on the Ford forums.
I have yet to see a DEF misfuel report on a Duramax.
It appears that GMs thought about fill location has some merit.
As for the insurance, look for the rates to go up on the Fords. I don't think that they will stop offering coverage as that is how they make money.
But they will price their risk exposure accordingly.
The bigger threat is what happens as these trucks get older. How could one justify such a expensive repair on a old truck?
Anyways, Jim I am sorry to hear about your situation. I have had a few brain farts myself, so I know how easy it is.
I hope they get you all fixed up, and you enjoy many trouble free miles with your truck.
