We're renting a 4x4 with a rooftop this June for Oz. The one we rented in Namibia a couple of years back was just on a single cab bakkie and with a back opening canopy. This box on the back of a ute should be much handier. Both the "bakkie" we rented, and the "ute" that we will renting are Nissan Navaras, (Frontier). This time, we'll be getting a double cab turbo diesel with a side opening box. Lesson learned.
At my age, dressing in a rooftop tent requires taking some yoga lessons for preparation. The 2 inch hard foam is a bit tough on the old bones, too. But we're won't be on the ground, important to the DW.
We'll be going from Perth to Darwin through the Kimberley. Rental companies don't like the Kimberley . But Aussies consider the Kimberley in the north west of the state of Western Australia their #1 must see. You cross a few rivers without bridges. You don't do the first wade because of "salties", salt water crocs.
