we have an '07 Sportchassis which we bought new and on which we now have put 112,000+ miles .... ours has the Mercedes MB900 engine mated up to an Allison T3000 tranny .... at the time we purchased ours the window sticker price was roughly twice of a Chevy/Ford one ton truck .... at 200,000 to 250,000 miles I used to get serious about finding a new truck .... with this one and the way I take care of it, I firmly believe 750,000 thousand to a million miles is realistic .... time will tell
Came up on this one with 35k miles and they asking $59,000. Seems pricey but unsure where find their value..... ====> as always much depends on the age and condition of the truck .... given reasonable care, a Sportchassis will outlast several "heavy duty" Chevy/Ford/Dodge trucks .... in the library that came with our truck, other than regular service, the very first thing they recommend is at a half million miles to put new bearings on the bottom of the piston rods
Are they a pulling machine over my current '12 F-450? ====> our truck produces 330 hp and 1,100 pound feet of torque .... it excels as a pulling machine but it won't do 70 mph, towing your 5er, up Vail and Eisenhower .... there are folks who have such expectations
How is the ride? ====> the major reason we bought the truck was
for the ride .... the air seats do an exceptional job of reducing (to the point of eliminating) impact on the spine from the rough roads that are all too common across the country
Fuel mileage not towing? ====> ours gets 9.0 to 11.0 towing or not towing .... worst ever 7.9 towing up the grade to Laramie while towing at 60 - 65 mph into a strong headwind .... best ever towing 11.8 south on I29 from Sioux Falls to St Joseph with a pretty good tailwind .... we figure our projected cost based on averaging 9.5 to 10.0 mpg .... I see reports in sales ads of 15+ mpg but there ain't no way
Reliability? Maintenance history availability unknown. Anything to watch out for being 11 years old? ====> best recommendation is to have a mechanic you trust look it over
I've read maneuverability is better with these any personal experiences? ====> if you lock the steering wheel at full turn and travel in a circle, its circle would be inside of one from our former Chevy 3500 dually
Fuel tank capacity-I fuel filler on each side? ====> 300 hp motors come with 100 gallon fuel capacity, 50 per side .... fuel is drawn from the driver's side tank and there is a connection with the passenger's side tank that allows the fuel level to equalize
Looks like it has an auxiliary air conditioner control...? ====> no clue what you are referring to
Air brakes?
Air ride? ====> springs on front, air on rear .... the air seat is the major plus in the exceptional ride
Brake life expectancy as a very general guideline (I know lots of variables) ====> no clue, at 112,000 miles ours are still the originals
It's got a Western camper bed with a 5th wheel hitch but not sure what kind yet or it's capacity.... ====> ours is a 350 RHA
Will I be looking at a change in pinbox adjustment over what my 450 currently rides at...?====> we had a Hensley Trailer Saver pinbox installed in ours .... you can raise or lower the height from the driver's seat
A lot of engine/road noise??====> very quiet inside, very noisy outside .... when the cooling fan kicks in, you know it
hope this helps
