When hitching or unhitching, a level site is easiest. If there is slope (either way), then it can be more difficult, but the fix is the same, once the latch is released, you need to move the TV a bit to release the tension. As others have commented above, sometimes it is forward, sometimes backwards. Sometimes I just pry it apart with a hefty screwdriver or old fashion jack handle (the one that can be used to pry hubcaps off). Occasionally I have seen hitches where the latch mechanism was just alittle too tight and needed to be backed off just a bit (I don't know if all hitches have an adjustment, but I know some of mine have).
