Metal replacement for kitchen vent?

I think this was on RV.net......
Several years ago, someone created a metal replacement for the kitchen vent. I thought I had saved it in my favs. I can't find it now.
Does anyone remember this and have a link or members name.
Didn't find it in the search I did.
Thanks!
Pat
  • I talked to staggerlee. He has a few of the flappers left and they are for sale.
I believe the size is 5" by 11'. That's bigger than the one I have.
He is not making anymore due to the cost involved.

BarneyS, he said to tell you hello. He is still around.

To the others that provided ideas and links, thank you!
For the time being, I can buy a replacement flapper and cover for about $11.
That's what I will do for a spare. When I do replace it, I can study, take measurements, etc and then decide if I can come up with a metal or stick to plastic.

    Thanks, again,

  • We previously owned Airstreams and replaced the vents with this:

I would think it would work for other RVs. Just need to verify the size works. we were happy with it on the Airstream.
  • Flapper construction:

Cut aluminum vinyl coated sheet to size and cut hinge rod

    Bend aluminum sheet around rod

    Install rod into vent opening

The rod I used was threaded and came with a threaded fastener. The cut end of the rod was cut was die cut to accept the same fastener. You could just use a nylock nut for the same purpose and use a piece of threaded rod stock.

Easy project took me about two hours even with the super techno spring and cable system I was going to use. I didn't use the cable as I found an easier way to hold the vent open, I removed the spring. The fan blows the flapper open when on.

    Hi Pat,
It was Staggerlee but he has not posted on the forums for quite a while. He made them out of aluminum.

You might try sending him a PM to see if he still makes them. I purchased one from him about 6 or 7 years ago. It still functions perfectly.

Thanks, Barney. I sent a PM and will see it he answers.

JJBirish, Thanks. it's the flapper I'm looking for.

Thanks, Dale. Replacement flapper is what I'm looking for.

  • Did a quick search and found some pricy vents from Luxury Metals. You can get them in copper, stainless, or galvanized. Too expensive for me but some may like them.

  • I remember someone mad a metal flapper to replace the broken plastic one, but I didn’t save it…

There are different types of metal vents commercially available, but most likely not what you are looking for…

  • Sorry, I tried to help with several searches, and thought it would be easy to find. All I can find are different variations of plastic ones.
