One thing I have noticed while researching gas 1 Ton trucks is that some of the manufactures have two different tow ratings. For instance, on the Chevy truck site they list conventional trailering and fifth wheel trailering. The Chevy 6.0 with 4.10 gear is rated to tow 13,000lbs conventional trailering and 14,000lbs fifth wheel trailering. Ford does the same thing but I don't see where RAM does this. RAM simply lists maximum towing.

Well it is your choice to stick with gas, or go to Diesel. If you want the tow with that 12K to 14K 5er to be a joy rather than a task, I would suggest Diesel, I would specifically recommend the RAM 3500 SRW, I pull my 05 Copper Canyon 293 FSSLS (33' 12K GVWR) with my 01 with ease, this truck will pull a 6% to 7% grade at 55 to 60 mph, and the EB, makes coming down those slopes just a easy. That with 3.55's behind a 5 speed manual.
Would like to understand your fear of diesel, Cummins has been one of the most trouble free diesels year after year. Or is it the $8,000 up front cost? You can deal that down some, but will get much of it back at trading time, as diesels hold a higher value.
