modern engines, you wont NEED a diesel. But if you prefer one, by all means go for it. I bought a used diesel, actually went after the grossly feared (on this board) ford 6.0, bought it for 8k less then it was worth per kbb (low price), spent the 4k to have the major issues dealt with and she runs great. In 6-10 mile runs she is no more or less happy then my 100 mile runs, the only thing my truck has shown to hate is if I only take it 1.5 miles from the house to the train station without streaching its legs every few days. Keep up on oil changes and maintinence, and youll be fine.
