Mileage of 6.4 Hemi

I noticed a recent post on mileage of 3/4 ton gas trucks. My truck is a DRW 1 ton CC LB 4x4 6.4 Hemi with 3:73 years. Just returned from a 500 mile trip pulling a 9k 5er and we got 8.9 mpg. I stayed between 62-65 mph. I would think the 3/4 tons would be close to the same. I am very happy with this truck and think the mpg is pretty good. Hope this helps some who are thinking of getting a gas tow vehicle.

Yep, right in line with mine that was 7-9 mpg pulling 12k (21k combined). Usually 8ish. 7 in the hills or wind, 9 in ideal terrain with no wind.
  • Mileage on any vehicle is entirely dependent on how much or little brains your right foot has.
  • I like that my 2015 Chevy 2500 6.0 is flex fuel. On E85 I generally have averaged around 11 mpg for all miles, with 13-14 on road trips and in the 8 mpg range towing. That doesn't sound great, but when E85 is so cheap, even with the lower mpg I still spend way less per mile on fuel than using regular, E10, or even if I had a diesel in the pickup. I filled Friday with E85 and it was $1.53 a gallon. The pickup has been on a study diet of E85 for well over a year now. Even a 2000 mile round trip to Wyoming last August, used E85 the entire trip. Actually, it did better t higher elevations than I thought it would. Could be the higher oxygen content of Ethanol. Sounds good anyway.
  • I had one of the 3/4 ton gas trucks (2015 Chevy 2500HD SRW with the 6.0L and 4.10's) I commented in another thread that I got 8.0-8.5 MPG towing a 9,000 pound travel trailer. I now have a Ram (2017 3500HD SRW with the 6.4 Hemi and 3.73's) and tow a 10,000 pound 5th wheel. My average mileage is 8.5-9.5 mpg. I've towed the same routes as I did with the previous truck. The only thing I can't account for is whether I've had any different head/tail winds but I'm going to assume they have been similar. So with a little heavier RV that's a little taller but has a more rounded nose I'm getting a little better mileage with the Hemi. Not an Apples to Apples comparison but I'm happy with the results I've been able to obtain.
