mix for black tank using calgon water softner

Interesting reading and I can not say I would disagree with any of it but I have never seen the need for water softener. Of course we are on the move all the time, about a week is all we stay in one spot but with a fair amount of water in the tank I have never had much trouble dumping.

...the site suggests 2 cups of Calgon and 1 cup of laundry soap. We always use A LOT of water! This keeps valves moist and working smoothly.

I have automatic dump valves and every trip the black tank valve would stick and not open. Had to crawl under the trailer with a hex key and free it, not pretty on wet ground. Prior to our first trip of the year I threw some Calgon and detergent down the hole with 5 gallons of water. Auto valve worked perfectly. I don't know if there is a correlation but the same stuff is going down next time. I just guessed on the amounts.

I use the Geo Method but, sometimes I just use a cup or two of lemon flavored dish washing detergent (the cheap stuff) and a couple gallons of water.

Here is the Geo Method site. The process is more than just one step, but many only approximate one or two steps. I can't say whether the benefit is the same or not. YMMV.

I just usually give it a couple of Glugs down the toilet after a tank flush. I believe its about a cup or so, just enough to soften the water as it fills, My thought being that after a flush I add about five gallons of water to the black tank and a cup or so also,, the splashing and sloshing on the way camping will coat the sides and censors to help make thing flow smoothly..
Wall mart sells the quarts and half gallons of Calgon, I think I have a half of a half left over.. Probably splash half of that in next trip..

Just use 50-50 /liquid Calgon and liquid detergent works out very well.
